Although the famous CP/M CD-ROM from Walnut Creek contains lots of files and programs that cannot be used on a PCW this CD-Rom is a valuable collection of:
"over 19,000 files with executable programs, source code, documentation and other material for the CP/M operating system. Included are the entire Simtel20 pub/cpm archives, the contents of some major CP/M bulletin boards and the personal collections of several leaders in the CP/M community. You'll find a vast array of material."
The CP/M CD-Rom is no longer available with this company, as well as most of their sources on the Internet, but it can still be found around in various places. Some of the programs have been included, after modification, in the Public Domain library of the Joyce Computer Club. The CD (version November 1994) comes with a large index file that contains the directory ("user" groups) listing of the CD and a description of the files. Each directory is dedicated to a source from the Internet or a specific type of CP/M computer. I have cut this file into easily manageable files (even on a PCW 8256) and presented them in ZIP archived files, which can be used on PC's as well as PCW's. When unzipped they are ASCII files that can be imported into e.g. LocoScript.
An alternative listing PLUS THE ENTIRE CONTENTS can be found at the: CP/M Commercial Software Archive. This page is now maintained only for linking purposes and for true PCW owners with limited storage capacity.
UNZIP.COM (3,328 bytes). Unzip for the PCW, can be used to extract .ZIP files (up to version 1.10). Not archived: do not run on a PC!;
FYNDE.ZIP (2,096 bytes) Fast find utility that can search ASCII files on key words (case-sensitive). Very useful with the listing files;
